Alfonso Artiaco is pleased to present Un pomeriggio alla finestra, the first solo exhibition at the gallery by Ulrich Wulff.
Wulff’s paintings take on the quality of thresholds, not openings to an external view, but reflective surfaces that return the gaze to the canvas itself. Each work functions as a site of interior resonance, inviting viewers to encounter painting as an instrument of introspection rather than as a window onto the world.
At the core of Wulff’s practice lies an acute chromatic sensibility. His tonal constellations emerge from memory and perception, bringing together subtle harmonies and striking juxtapositions. Gentle hues interlace with earthier registers, producing visual chords that feel both unexpected and deeply familiar. These colour fields, often traced by simple lines or bounded by geometric divisions, establish spaces where forms seem to sway and planes appear to move in quiet dialogue.
The artist’s visual language navigates between restraint and expression, balancing the clarity of structure with the immediacy of painterly gesture. In doing so, Wulff resists schematic solutions: colour is not descriptive but experiential, imbued with affective charge. Each canvas becomes a place where emotion and memory are held in suspension, where painting reclaims its essential humanity.
The title of the exhibition encapsulates this very condition. Within the intimate, windowless architecture of the space, the paintings evoke an imagined aperture. Like standing before a quiet window on a still afternoon, the viewer is invited not to gaze outward, but to inhabit a suspended moment of contemplative introspection.
For Wulff, painting is not an exercise in illusion but a process of unveiling what is already present -within us, among us, and through us. In this sense, his work underscores the unique sensuality that only the painted image can impart: a form of presence that resists reduction to concept or system, affirming instead the vital, spiritual dimension of art.
